Beunka Adams executed

Adams was executed after a short stay of execution.

After receiving a short stay of execution, Beunka Adams lost an appeal by prosectuors and  his death warrant was re-instated. His execution started just under three hours after the last appeal was denied.

Adams’ last words were to apologize to the victim’s family, “Everything that happened that night was wrong, if I could take it back, I would. … I messed up and can’t take that back.”

Beunka Adams was pronounced dead at 6:25pm CST on April 26th, 2012.

Richard Cobb, also on death row for the murder of 37-year-old Kenneth Vandever, does not yet have an execution date.

BREAKING NEWS: Beunka Adams gets a stay of execution

Just in: A federal judge has issued a stay of execution for Beunka Adams while a review is made of claims that Adams had poor legal representation during his appeals.

It is unclear yet if prosecutors are able to appeal the decision.

Beunka Adams execution on Thursday

Adams is scheduled to die on Thursday in Texas.

Barring an stays of execution, Beunka Adams will be executed Thursday, April 26th at 6pm CST.

Adams was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Kenneth Wayne Vandever in 2002. Adams and his accomplice Richard Cobb were robbing a convenience store in Rusk, Texas. The only customer in the store at the time was Kenneth Vandever, a mentally challenged man who was around the store so often that he often helped to clean along with the clerks.

Vandever and the two female clerks, Candice Driver and Nikki Dement were taken out their car and driven out of town. Adams sexually assaulted one of the women, and then he decided to let them leave. Only a few short moments later he changed his mind. They were forced to the ground where they were shot. While the two women were injured in the shooting, both survived. Vandever, however died from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Richard Cobb was also convicted of murder and also sits on Texas’ death row.
