Texas switches to pentobarbital for upcoming execution

Pentobarbital is replacing the traditional 3-drug protocol in lethal injections.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice announced Tuesday that Texas will discontinue its use of the 3-drug cocktail in its lethal injections and instead switch over to the new single drug pentobarbital.

The first inmate to be administered the new protocol will be Yokamon Hearn, whose execution is scheduled for July 18th.

While switching to pentobarbital is the trend among states that continue to use the death penalty, Texas did so out of necessity as the state’s supply of pancuronium bromide, one of the key ingredients in the traditional 3-drug protocol, had expired and the TDCJ was unable to obtain more of the drug.

Ohio was the first state to convert to pentobarbital as a single drug in executions in March of 2011.

Iam a very strong believer in the death penalty, but changing from 3 injections to just one is not a good idea in my opinion. The reason that Iam saying this is because what happens if the one drug never works, what happen then, is there going to be a standby or is it too expensive, because even though as I said earlier Iam a gret believer in te death penalty but I think it would be wrong to put him or her through it more than once.
