1 man dead, 7 others injured in Toronto mall shooting, possibly gang-related
An unidentified gunman opened gunfire on a crowd in Toronto’s Eaton Centre Saturday evening killing 24-year-old Ahmed Hassan, a Toronto resident and injuring 7 other innocent bystanders including a 13-year-old boy.
Although police are hesitant to call this a gang-related crime, Hassan did have gang ties and was the target of the shooting.
Last night at 6:30pm bullets sprayed the crowded food court in one of the busiest malls in Canada, several people were injured by the stampede of people rushing for exits during the shooting including a pregnant woman who was trampled. She was hospitalized but is recovering and will be ok.
A 13-year-old boy was also shot in the head during the shooting, he and his family were visiting Toronto. The boy remains in critical condition, but police have reported that he apparently spoke this morning.
Although police have identified the shooter, they are keeping the information secret for now.
The Eaton Centre will remain closed for the day.
