Severed foot found in Canadian Prime Minister’s office, linked to Montreal torso, suspect announced

Luka Rocco Magnotta is a suspect in one of the most bizarre murders in Canadian history.

A severed foot was packaged up and sent to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative Party’s HQ on Tuesday.

Jenni Byrne, one of the key strategists behind Harper’s re-election was the one who opened the blood stained package. Later that same day, police discovered a second package that contained a severed hand. Strangely, police were able to link the limbs to a torso discovered in Montreal.

When Byrne opened the box on Tuesday morning, it had blood stains on it, and when she opened the box a wretched, foul stench flooded the office. The police were immediately notified and after examining the box, they found the foot inside.

Both parcels were sent from Montreal.

The torso was found in a suit case in the west end of Montreal on Wednesday afternoon and claimed that the suspect and the victim knew each other.

Today police named Luka Rocco Magnotta, an aspiring gay porn star and kitten killer (he allegedly placed two kittens a in plastic bag, placed a vacuum hose inside and sucked the air out, suffocating the animals) the main suspect in the murder of the yet unnamed victim. There is a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest, several animal rights groups are also offering a reward for information leading to his arrest.

Henry Jackson next U.S. execution, scheduled for Tuesday

Jackson murdered two nieces, two nephews and tried to kill his sister.

Henry Curtis Jackson Jr. is scheduled to be executed on Tuesday, June 5th in Mississippi.

Jackson, now 47-years-old, was convicted of the 1990 murders of his two young nieces, and two nephews near Greenwood, Mississippi. He also stabbed another niece and his sister, they both survived the attack.

Todd Wessinger to get hearing, will not be executed in 2012

Wessinger was originally scheduled for execution on May 9th.

Todd Wessinger was scheduled to die on May 9th but a last minute stay of execution was issued by Judge James Brady to allow arguments to be made by Wessinger’s attorneys.

Last week those arguments were heard by Judge Brady and although four of five of the claims made by the defense were thrown out by the Judge, he did rule that Wessinger’s claim of “ineffective assistance of counsel at the penalty phase of the trial” was valid, and at least deserved a hearing to look into it further. The hearing was scheduled for December 13th, 2012, leaving it very unlikely his execution will be carried out in 2012.

Early in the year, Judge Brady denied Wessinger’s request for a new trial, claiming that there was an overwhelming amount of evidence pointing to his guilt in the case, however, his attorney’s did not present all pertinent facts about Wessinger’s mental state and abusive childhood  in the penalty phase of his trial where he was sentenced to death.

 

The many wives of Drew Peterson

While the focus of the upcoming Drew Peterson trial is rightfully on Kathleen Savio, Drew Peterson has had three other wives that will likely play a part in some way in his upcoming court date. Stacy Peterson, his fourth wife, who is currently missing created suspicions about Savio’s death and is the reason for the exhumation and now trial. Carol Brown and Victoria Connolly, his first two wives will likely play a part as much as they can speak to his personality and behaviour as it pertains to the prosecution’s case.

Carol Brown (1st)

Drew Peterson and Carol Brown were married for 6 years from 1974 to 1980. They originally met as teenagers in high school in Villa Park, Illinois. They dated and went to Peterson’s senior prom together. The marriage ended after she found out about his cheating on her.

Victoria Connolly (2nd)

Two years after his divorce in 1982 Peterson married Victoria Connolly. Most notably about their relationship, and likely to make its way into court, is an alleged history of abuse to both Connolly and her daughter who was 8 at the time they moved in with Peterson. The marriage lasted less than 10 years. Once Peterson started dating Kathleen Savio Connolly filed for divorce, it was finalized in 1992.
