Prosecutors win big in Drew Peterson case
Prosecutors in the Drew Peterson case scored big on Thursday when an Illinois appellate court granted their request to use heresay statements that were previously excluded from the former police officer’s trial.
The actual trial itself is expected to start anytime between now and October but no one really knows for sure. It has been delayed for almost 2 years while repeated appeals over comments his late ex-wife, Kathleen Savio made about, worked their way through the court system.
But the case has remained in the headlines throughout that time. In January 2012, the Lifetime network broadcast a movie about Peterson and the case starring Rob Lowe – the movie brought huge ratings.
While Peterson’s fourth wife Stacy is still missing, the trial will focus on the death of his third wife Kathleen Savio – her death was ruled an accidental drowning but the case was re-opened after Stacy Peterson went missing in 2007. Once her body was exhumed and an autopsy performed, the manner of death was changed to homicide.
Drew Peterson is a former police officer from Bolingbrook, Illinois. He is 58 years old.
